When Chad Kennedy returns to Laramie evenone knows that despite his acquital, he killed his brother.  When his father dies accidentally in his presence, his brother's widow claims Chad killed him.  The town is happy to believe it and even Dan has to wonder if hanging for his father's "murder" wouldn't be a just result.
