The most interesting part of this episode is the fact that it is a recycle of the script for the Cheyenne episode "The Empty Gun"  (2-25-58) in which John Russell played the reformed gunman who wants to give financial help to the woman he loves.  In both versions, her son wants revenge against the man he believes killed his father.  Unbeknownst to him, the gunman is actually his father.  In the Lawman version, Dan Troop takes the position taken by Cheyenne in the original -- that of a reluctant bodyguard and eventual friend to a man whose gun hand is now useless.
