This is one of the few episodes to give us some personal background on Dan Troop. The Hayes gang is coming to get Troop. His "not so within the law" brother Clay rides hell bent for leather from Arizona to help him. We learn from their discussion that they were both in love with the same woman, but she went off with Clay. She wanted them to be friends but after she was killed, that hadn't been possible.

Dan even starts to suggest to Johnny that it's not his fight, but stops when he sees the look on Johnny's face. Clay leaves his bed to join Dan and Johnny in taking out the gang. Johnny gets the last one as he rides out, but not in time to save Clay who takes a bullet for his brother.
