SOURCE LIST FOR VIDEOS Etc.
As far as we know LAWMAN  has never been rerun during the VCR age in the US except possibly in some small isolated stations.  The first two seasons were run in Australia in the late 1990's and it's scheduled to run on the Canadian Lonestar channel eventually.  All the copies available are bootleg from 16mm or copies of those copies.  LAREDO  has run in many areas including a few years ago uncut on the Encore Westerns channel so there should be some good copies available.  We're thrilled to say that  the six WILDSIDE episodes were released as a box set of videos.
Most of William Smith's and Peter Brown's movies are out of print, although it's amazing what they're putting on DVD.  [e.g. Foxy Brown, Piranha, Piranha and Invasion of the Bee GirlsKitten with a Whip was recently released on video.
We're always looking for new sources.  If you've found a source that provides copies of  old series not available on commercial viode, please let us know.  We don't have any connection to any of the sources we recommend.  We won't recommend one until at least one of us has ordered from it but send us a source and we'll give it a try.  Contact us at Outrider@peterbrown.tv

About Copyrights

All privately sold or traded video tapes - whether copied from TV and recopied, or film chained from 16mm involve at least a technical violation of the copyright held by the studio.  It has been our observation so far that in the case of old shows (most of the Westerns are pre-1970's, many 35-45 years old) the studios have simply abandoned them.  They are not released on video or DVD and often not even syndicated.  The only way a fan base for such shows can be maintained in the meantime is thru amateur tape traders and sellers.  When there is a commercial source for a TV episode - such as Columbia House - we urge you buy thru them to encourage such commercial ventures.  We urge you not to buy pirated copies of any commercial tapes, including Columbia House.  The sources we've listed below are for shows you just can't get anywhere else.  We don't feel that this practice causes any economic damage to anyone.   For many of the 40-35 year old shows, the actors, directors etc. wouuld not get residuals or royalties even if the show were syndicated or released on video.  And if the studio that owns the show doesn't do anything with it, then they are suffering no loss when copies are made for fans.  Although the studios don't give permission for such use of their shows, in most cases they seem to turn a blind eye because they know they are not being harmed.  It they do eventually release a show, there will still be fans who remember it due to episodes provided by the people listed below.

Columbia House Western Collection sells selected episodes of Maverick, Gunsmoke, Rawhide,  Wild Wild West, Wagon Train, Have Gun Will Travel, Kung Fu.  Although they don't tell you up front, they will send you a list of available episodes and let you buy only the ones you want.

caseyguy@networksplus.net   We ordered about 25 tapes from Dr. Ron Evans of some hard-to-find things like Roaring Twenties, Wide Country, The Thin Man (the tv series) and Peter Brown's episodes of Redigo and Most Deadly Game.  Many people have let us know of positive experiences with him.  He has some LAWMAN  and other Warners westerns.  Dr. Ron has a web site listing all the classic TV he has available at tttp://www.networksplus.net/caseyguy/epPartners.htm

Dr. Ron's tapes also vary with his source.  He was very fast.  His prices vary from $8 to $14 a tape depending on how many you order and whether you want specific episodes or just want him to pick a set of episodes from a certain series.  Postage is 50 cents a tape.

TStra35675@aol.com T.J. Strahan was the first source we ever used in collecting miscellaneous guest appearances by William Smith, Peter Brown and a few others.  He has LAREDO, Rich Man, Poor Man - both the mini-series and  Book II (the series), many episodes of LAWMAN and lots of other Western & nonWestern stuff.  He charges about $18 plus postage for a two-hour tape.  We wish he would get a web site but at least he finally got email so for now his inventory is in catalogs.  If you're interested in a particular actor, he'll do a search for you to let you know what series episodes he has with that actor.

TJ's tapes reflect the quality of his sources.  He says his source tapes for Laredo are excellent.   We got RMPM II from him and the quality was good (and we couldn't find it elsewhere anyway).  For Lawman the quality is generally Fair+ with some Good and a few Poor.

The philosophy of both TJ and Dr. Ron is to collect anything that's viewable and upgrade when possible.  They supply those of us who first of all want a viewable tape of a favorite show we might not be able to get elsewhere.  Both are knowledgeable about many of the shows.  If you want only excellant or good quality, ask before ordering.  Dr. Ron will make a sample tape of snippets from various shows for $5 if you want to see the quality before ordering a full episode.  They both have many series available, not just westerns.
For the best quality Lawman copies we've seen check CRU's Page or email Cru at frisbie@erols.com
Her prices are very reasonable but will depend on whether you want a tape of preselected episodes or want a tape made up of particular episodes you've selected.  We've gotten dozens of high quality upgrades from her.  She's where we'd go first for all episodes.  There are a few she still hasn't gotten in top quality direct from the reel, but she'll let you know if you've selected one of those.  She's missing the same three episodes we are.  She's the only person we know who loves this show as much as we do.  She's supplied us with some of the inside info that will appear in our episode pages.

LAWMAN  Episode Recommendations
rareserials.com The tapes from this source were quite good.  The main drawback for us was you can't order tapes containing the four or five episodes you want.  They're listed with the episodes prechosen.  So if the episodes you want are on four different tapes, you must order all four tapes.  Also, because they only carry what they can find in top quality, the selection is limited.  They have nine Lawman tapes available with five episodes on each tape.  We ordered them all and the quality was all good.  A good place for reliable upgrades on the episodes they carry if they are some of the few CRU doesn't have good copies of.  They charge $28 for one tape or $50 for two including shipping in the U.S.  They also offer P.A.L format for $35 a tape.
Barbara Douglass comes highly recommended from a number of customers.  hollywoodhero@worldnet.att.net She has a number of western series including LAWMAN and LAREDO  Email her for a free catalog.  Prices very reasonable.
BOB RIGDON at babyboomers1@mail.ev1.net VIRGINIAN episodes Bob has are listed & described at: http://www.buckskins.com/virginian4sale.htm   Prices are $7 an episode plus postage for 4 episodes per tape.  If you want SP copies, postage will be more of course.  Email him for details on episodes of other series noted below
Other Western series Bob has episodes from: BRANDED, BRONCO LANE, CHEYENNE, COLT 45, DANIEL BOONE, DEAD MAN'S GUN, DEATH VALLEY DAYS, THE GREY GHOST, GUNS OF WILL SONNET, GUNSMOKE, HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL, JOHNNY RINGO, KIT CARSON, LANCER, LAREDO, LAWMAN, THE LONE RANGER, MacKENZIE'S RAIDERS, THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, A MAN CALLED SHENANDOAH, MARSHALL DILLON, MAVERICK, RAWHIDE, THE REBEL, THE RESTLESS GUN, THE RIFLEMAN, SHANE, STAGECOACH WEST, TALES OF WELLS FARGO, THE TEXAN,, WAGON TRAIN (OLD), WAGON TRAIN (NEW), WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE, THE WESTERNERS, THE WILD, WILD WEST, and ZANE GREY THEATER.
He also has some comedy series such as Real McCoys, Sandford & Son, All in the Family, That's My Mama, What's Happening, The Redd Foxx Show, The Bagdad Cafe, Sugar & Spice, Royal Family, Good Times, Jeffersons, Honeymooners, WKRP, Andy Griffith, Barney Miller, Parker Lewis Can't Lose, Bob Newhart,  F Troop and some dramas like Combat, Rat Patrol, China Beach, Tour of Duty, Baa Baa Black Sheep, Lost in Space, Rockford Files, A-Team and also Three Stooges (old & new), and Putting on the Hits.
We got a tape of a Peter Brown appearance we hadn't been able to find anywhere else [Project UFO] from COLIN DUFF in Australia.  He's one of the few sources for PAL format although he can also tape in the American format.  He has both Westerns and other shows.  The Project UFO and Fantasy Island episodes we got were high quality, the Bengal Lancers were as good as could be expected of that ancient series.  Because of the costs of postage, $30 a tape might be a little pricey for anything where there's a good quality copy available in the states (for us statesiders).  But there are series running now or which have run there fairly recently that haven't been run here in prime VCR time in the states so he may have better quality of some things.  [We got a missing Lawman from Australia as they recently ran the first two seasons there.]  The price is cheaper for tapes sent to the Australia/New Zealand area.  Colin has a website at:
http://www.classictv.cjb.net/
WILDSIDEThe six episodes of Wildside were made available on commercial video after the 1985 series was canceled.  Now they've been rereleased as a box set.  We found them on amazon.com for $33 plus postage and on moviesunlimited.com  for $43.50 including shipping .  This is a three tape set, two episodes per tape. William Smith at his heroic (as opposed to villainous) best.  Also starring Howard E. Rollins, John DiAquino, Terry Funk, J. Eddie Peck and (just before she hit it big) Meg Ryan.
MOVIES ON VIDEO:  There are lots of old movie sources.  For videos still in print check amazon.commoviesunlimited.com  reel.com  and videoflicks.com.  Watch out if you do an actor search on Movies Unlimited.  We tried both William Smith and Peter Brown and came up with a bunch of movies we know for sure they were not it.  Check with the IMDb.com before ordering to see if they are really in what you're ordering.  Or email us, we'll let you know [even the IMDb has a few errors]. niteowls@williamsmith.org  or  outrider@peterbrown.tv

For out of print videos, everything shows up on ebay.com sooner or later although if it hasn't been seen lately, the bidding could go fairly high.  That sometimes brings out other sellers which eventually brings the price down.   Videoflicks.com also has some OOP videos.  We haven't had much luck with the Amazon auction site for videos yet, but it could get better  Although we haven't ordered from them directly, we have been happy with the ebay auction tapes we've gotten from Scorched Earth Productions sepnet.com  [they also have some classic TV] and videooyster.com.

MEMORABILIA:  We bought (or saw and couldn't afford) most of the memorabilia shown on our sites from the ebay auction  www.ebay.com

WE'LL TRADE FOR ANY OF OUR MISSING STUFF!!   If anyone has any of our three missing episodes of Lawman, we will be happy to trade copies of episodes you might be missing.  We would also be willing to take anyone's 16 mm of those episodes and pay to have it converted to video.  The three are:  "Hassayampa"  "Blind Hate" "The Tarnished Badge"  Missing Peter Brown stuff is listed HERE.
